Book Arts Saturday Workshops
SATURDAYS 16 April, 7 MAY, 21 MAY

These workshops will explore ways in which artist’s books can be made in response to the environment and place. Techniques will be introduced and progressively developed, although each workshop can stand alone - so book for just one or all three. The workshop on 16 April is now full.
Workshop fee: £40 per day. To book, send an email or phone 01544 260149. Places are limited and advance booking is essential. There may be a small additional fee for materials. A list of what to bring will be sent on confirmation of booking.
1: 16 April - Introduction and creation of artist’s books - FULLY BOOKED
The workshop will start with a discussion on how to translate the concept of place into artist’s books, illustrated with examples. Pages will be created as a response to the environment at the Rodd. These will be used to make artist’s books that are simple in structure but nevertheless effective. Structures such as the pamphlet, concertina and flutter will be made and combined to produce creative forms. Students will make books to take home.
2: 7 May - Making a case bound notebook
Students will make a stitched and pasted hardcover notebook. The book will contain multiple sections including pages with different folds.
3: 21 May - Decorative bindings
Students will make pages based on gesture and chance. These will form multiple sections used to create a book form with a decorative stitched spine.
Pauline Lamont-Fisher is a practising artist, making artist’s books. Her principle inspiration is walking in both urban and rural environments and her artist’s books reflect her interest in the landscape. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, a Postgraduate Diploma in Book Arts and Crafts from the London College of Communication and an MA in Visual Arts (Book Arts) from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts, London. She is a fully qualified teacher. She exhibits internationally and her work is held in public and private collections. http://www.burntbarn.co.uk/
