"It’s the purples and blues that struck me so forcibly when I first saw this painting exhibited at the Sidney Nolan Trust. How amazing that an icy, uninhabitable place should have such vibrant colour. Nolan’s relatively brief visit resulted in 60 odd Antarctica images, now scattered round the museums and galleries of the world, enabling so many people to gain an appreciation of a place that so few get the chance to visit."
