Dr Kate McMillan presents the 2025 Sidney Nolan Birthday Lecture - Sidney Nolan and Global Disorder: A Copper Coloured Civilisation.

Dr Kate McMillan is an Australian/British artist and Reader in Creative Practice at King’s College London. She will use the Annual Sidney Nolan lecture to discuss Nolan’s relationship to the ‘global’, drawing from her specialist teaching on Contemporary Art & Globalisation. McMillan will consider his response to the world in the aftermath of WWII, focusing on his work on Auschwitz and Africa. She will underline the critical role artists play in revealing the complexity of socio-political change, reflecting on current conflicts as the world, once again, reorients.
