Cultivate is a once-a-month arts programme for 11 – 18-year-olds. Led by artist Emma Posey, Cultivate is a great way for young people, with an interest in the arts, to develop their creative thinking and making skills through research and experimentation.
The group offers a unique social space for those growing up in the region to work alongside artists and other professionals with a broad range of expertise.
In this special summer edition, we are thrilled to be working with filmmaker Lal Davies who specialises in first-person narrative and documentary films. Social media platforms and streaming sites have popularised the filmmaking genre of documentaries and nonfiction ‘content creation’ and in this crowded context it is often still stories of authenticity and truth which resonate most strongly.
Lal will work with us on the development of a short film focused on a ‘sense of place’.
We have invited local participants who have made the English/Welsh border region their home. In groups, we will explore what it means to develop a sense of place in a new country or indeed if one ever really does. Using personal archive objects that represent our journeys to where we find ourselves now, through film and editing we will bring to life their real-life stories.
