More information

Almost any suffering can be borne if it can be found to have meaning’, said Friedrich Nietzsche. Musician, composer, music critic and author Stephen Johnson believes that music has been a vital path to meaning, acting powerfully against the negativity of clinical depression. In this illustrated talk, he looks at the music that has helped him, and invokes neurophysiology, psychology, philosophy, religious tradition and personal experience in an attempt to help explain how and why.

James Roose-Evans (1927-2022) theatre director, author and priest was the founder of the Bleddfa Centre for the Creative Spirit in 1974, now part of the Sidney Nolan Trust. We are delighted to host this memorial lecture exploring creativity, ideas and spirit in honour of JRE’s legacy.

Light refreshments will be available before and after the talk.
