Painting with Nolan's Materials (2024)

As a natural scavenger Goldsmith was delighted to uncover a stash of Sidney Nolan's painting materials in the old cattle shed at The Rodd. As an artist who does not paint, the barn became Goldsmith's canvas and Nolan's time-weathered artefacts her paint. This work combines installation and moving image recorded on site as response to Nolan's life. The installation touches on Nolan's Second World War experience where paint tubes take on the aura of bullet cartridges or tin soldiers.
